about

Hey You" explores a topic that is almost tabooed in our current global political climate - the pitfalls and hypocrisy of religion. The track tackles this complex issue head-on, offering some frank insights underpinned by painful personal experiences. Said vocalist Mish of the track, "I drew inspiration for this song from my upbringing. I started seeing loopholes in the strict religious beliefs and their followers at a very young age. I was sexually abused and relentlessly bullied by people in a position of power within these religious institutions for a number of years. Everyone knew but no one said a word or tried to help as they were bound by their belief of salvation after death by their god. I have long overcome that trauma but there is one thing that stayed with me: the idea that people can do horrible things to each other - controlling, manipulating and abusing each other - and hide it behind their fears of eternal punishment. The lyrics talk about finding “Your Own Light” and being your true self, you don’t have to conform to others who tell you who to be just to fit in or out of fear. Trust yourself - you are worth more than living your life controlled by a bunch of rules written hundreds of years ago.”

lyrics

Hey you, do you remember when you turned your back on me
You said I'd never find my peace unless I give into your faith

I close my eyes so I can see the light
Inside myself, burning so bright
I can see it now, I can see it
Don't need you to tell me where I belong
Feed me lies or string me slong
I can feel it now, I can feel it

Hey you tell me what you've done to get closer to your God
Who never seems to hear when you're screaming at me

I close my eyes so I can see the light
Inside myself, burning so bright
I can see it now, I can see it
Don't need you to tell me where I belong
Feed me lies or string me along
I can feel it now, I can feel it

You keep hiding acts of violence
Behind a mask with no mercy
Open your eyes and find your own light
Only truth will set you free

I close my eyes so I can see the light
Inside myself, burning so bright
I can see it now, I can see it
Don't need you to tell me where I belong
Feed me lies or string me along
I can feel it now, I can feel it

Hey you did Jesus really die for you?
Hey you, you know it's all a lie
Hey you, to keep your down and paralyzed
